ABOUT THE PROJECT

HackForce is the first hackathon in Latvia entirely done online. The hackathon aimed to address the challenges posed by the coronavirus crisis by bringing together world-class mentors and talented teams to build solutions for better tomorrow. HackForce invited not just developers, but experts, entrepreneurs, and professionals in every field to contribute their time and skills to tackle the crisis together.

OUR ROLE

Establishing and sustaining project communication. Participants and Mentors attraction; Fundraising; Media Relations; Technical production. Public communication & marketing strategy.  Developed tools and methodologies for the strategic planning of online hackathons.

RESULTS

HackForce gathered more than 70 mentors and 800 hackers from 25 countries. The winning teams shared 39 000 EUR prize fund to ensure quick idea development. The hackathon live-stream has been viewed by over 15 000 people. The President of Latvia Egils Levits also joined the live-stream to congratulate and thank the teams.

The team Shields48 gained first place with their 3D printed medical facial protectors. For further development of the project, the team received EUR 12 000. Today, Shields48 has manufactured more than 20 000 face shields and delivered them to the biggest hospitals in the region, protecting thousands of medical workers. During the hackathon, team Stay Home developed a platform for volunteers connecting those who need help with those who can provide it. With the support of the hackathon community, the platform is receiving contributions from 1000 active volunteers everyday.
